Most Pakistani students searching for "Italy scholarships" find the big national prizes with a handful of winners. The better opportunity for many families is quieter: the regional DSU scholarship.
What is DSU?
Diritto allo Studio Universitario is the right to university study. Each Italian region funds a body (DiSCo in Lazio, ER.GO in Emilia-Romagna, EDISU in Piemonte and others) that supports students with:
- A tuition fee waiver (down to a small regional tax)
- A yearly cash grant paid in instalments
- Free or subsidised meals and housing support
Amounts vary by region, year and your situation, so always read the current call.
Who can get it?
Support is need-based. You generally need to be admitted to a university, show your family's economic situation through the ISEE parificato, and meet academic requirements.
How to apply
- Get admitted and pre-enrol on Universitaly
- Prepare your ISEE parificato (this is where most applications go wrong)
- Apply to the regional body before its deadline, usually in summer
- Maintain your credits each year to keep the benefits
The honest truth
Nobody can guarantee a scholarship. What you can control is a complete, accurate application, submitted on time. Start 8–12 months before your intake.
Rules, dates and amounts change every year. Verify with the official regional body.
