Regional scholarships · DSU

Italy's best-kept secret for international students

Unlike national prizes with a handful of winners, regional DSU scholarships are need-based. If you qualify and apply correctly, support for tuition, living costs, meals and housing can be within reach.

What you get

Three benefits in one scholarship

Tuition fee waiver

Eligible students can have university tuition reduced to a minimal regional tax, often the single biggest saving.

Yearly cash grant

A regional grant paid in instalments to help with living costs. The amount depends on the region and where you live.

Meals & housing support

Free or heavily discounted canteen meals, plus access to regional student residences where available.

Amounts differ by region, year and your situation. We confirm the current figures for your chosen region before you apply.

Who can apply

Typical eligibility

  • Enrolled (or enrolling) in a bachelor's, master's or single-cycle degree at an Italian university
  • A low enough family income and assets, proven through the ISEE parificato
  • Minimum academic requirements: admission for first-years, credit targets for continuing students
  • Complete, correctly legalised and translated documents submitted before the regional deadline

Students from certain lower-income countries may benefit from simplified documentation rules. Rules change, so we check the current call for Pakistan before you start.

The mistakes we prevent

Where students lose out

  • !Missing the regional deadline, which is separate from the university admission deadline
  • !Submitting an incomplete or incorrectly legalised income document
  • !Choosing a university without checking how its region treats international students
  • !Waiting until after the visa to think about money

The path

How the application works

  1. 1

    Get admitted

Apply and pre-enrol on Universitaly. A scholarship application needs a university place to attach to.

  2. 2

    Prepare your ISEE parificato

Your family's income, assets and household are documented, often with legalised and translated papers. This is where most applications go wrong.

  3. 3

    Apply to the regional body

Each region (DiSCo, ER.GO, EDISU and others) publishes a call, usually in summer, with its own portal and deadline.

  4. 4

    Receive the ranking

Applicants are ranked and funds allocated. Many eligible students receive support, but it is never guaranteed.

  5. 5

    Keep it, renew it

Maintain your credit targets each year to keep your tuition waiver and grant.
